visor Extensions
Optimising Your Geographic Information System visor
The possible fields of application for the visor program can be extended with standard and optional add-ons and tools.
- data sources
- database module (standard)
- GPS module
- register programs
- integration of visor into other programs
- DDE tester (standard)
- ActiveX control (standard)
- maps and objects
- toolbox for raster maps in the visor format
- converter into other GIS formats
- module for buffering and intersection
- filter for the processing of objects on the command line
Database Module
The database module is included in delivery. It enables you to an efficient administration of data with which you can save your addresses or other space-oriented objects. Moreover, it is possible to show the geographical reference directly on the map displayed with visor.
GPS Module
The GPS module permits to display the positioning data of a GPS receiver immediately on the visor map. These data can either be directly transmitted from the GPS receiver or be available as a separate file.
Register Programs
This extension allows the integration of street and town directories and other registers in order to carry out a search via these data. The search results are marked on the map.
DDE Tester
This test program is also included in delivery. It is used to test commands of the programming interface with visor.
ActiveX Control
visor ActiveX control is automatically registered on your computer during the installation. It allows you to integrate visor into other programs such as Microsoft Excel etc.
Toolbox
The toolbox is a collection of tools which help you to convert scanned or unrastered maps into the visor format AKF (official map format). Thus, you can import and insert your own maps in all current TIFF formats. It is also possible to compile maps from the fund of OpenStreetMap Edition.
Converter
The converters allow you to implement complex vector-based data formats into visor. The converters can be purchased individually and take into consideration possible modifications, depending on your region or country.
- EDBS (uniform database interface) converter with its subtypes ALK and ATKIS (German data formats for geo-information systems; comparable with U.S. SDTS format)
- DXF converter
- shape converter in accordance with ESRI specifications (free)
The connection of visor vectors to formats of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is also possible via an available tool.
Buffering and Intersection
The module supports you with the manipulation of objects. Buffering allows you e.g. to put radiuses around all objects on one layer, or to designate a protective strip with a given width along streets or roads. More features include
- intersection: forming an intersection of two objects
- addition: drawing an outline around all input objects
- subtraction: subtracting one object from the surface of another
- splines: smoothing of polylines and polygons
Filter
Editing of objects which are in the VDB format (vector format of visor) by using the command line. Examples
- converting circular arcs into polylines
- assigning new colour attributes to all objects on one layer
- scaling of objects by any given factor
