Converting TIFF into visor Formats
Our toolbox is an extensive collection of tools which permit the conversion of scanned or unrastered maps into visor formats which optimise the display. The toolbox enables visor users not only to use official maps which are available on CD (and which are activated by land surveyor’s offices), but also to integrate any other map in all common TIFF data formats.
Automated Georeferencing of Large TIFF Files
By evaluating TFW (TIFF World File) description files, manually aligning and geo-referencing tiles becomes unnecessary. Batch processing for the conversion of large amounts of georeferenced map sheets in the TIFF format into separate visor AKF-maps is also possible with the tif2akf converter. Hence, the toolbox represents a professional solution for the generation of visor raster maps in the AKF format. This permits to extend the MapMaker function from the original installation of visor, which is limited to single files of maximal 7000 x 7000 pixels.
Functions
- conversion of original source files into a visor cartography with (digitale Kartenbasis, "digital map basis") utility (tiled TIFF)
- calculation of 4 or 8 bit colour graphics based on RGB models
- size adjustment of the raster maps to a any required target format
- tiling of the source raster file into high-performance MMI (open visor map format) and AKF structures
- drastic reduction of memory requirements by LZW or PackBits data compressing
- georeferencing cartographic material with the RefEdit program
- calibration on the basis of orthogonal, metric coordinate systems
- support of many projections and ellipsoids
The toolbox is required to make the freely available OpenStreetMap carthographic material readable for visor.
